Will you be dyeing eggs for Easter? Or do you eat lots of eggs?
Easter is always a great time to buy eggs because they tend to go on sale pretty cheap due to the ritual egg festivities. Check expiration dates and if they are long, be sure to stock up.
Who has the best price?
I noticed in the Walmart sales flyer yesterday (Sunday, April 13th) that eggs were advertised as $4.28 for 2 1/2 dozen (30 total) large Grade A eggs. Looks like a good enough deal- comes to 14 cents per egg.
But then, I saw the Walgreens ad where they have eggs for $.99 for 1 dozen. After some quick math, I realized that comes to 8.2 cents per egg.
So……Walgreens is the clear winner here! 30 eggs at Walgreens would run you $2.48 cents versus paying $4.28 for 30 eggs at Walmart. Big difference in my opinion, plus you don’t have to deal with Walmart (sorry folks…..not my favorite place to frequent).
Walmart will price match the Walgreens price on the same item (just in case Walgreens runs out or in case you happen to be in Walmart anyways). Their price match policy states that you do not have to show the cashier the Walgreens flyer to prove it, but I recommend bringing it if possible, just in case you run into a problem.
This is illustrative of a point I make over and over. Walmart rarely has the best price. USUALLY, sales at a grocery store are equal to or less than Walmart’s price. So if you always buy on sale at the grocery store, you’ll probably spend less than you would have at Walmart.

It is not that you can never get a good deal at Walmart. However, overall, I have found that most people save more money buying their groceries at a grocery store instead of Walmart.
For our family, we used to spend $700+ a month shopping at Walmart. Now that we shop grocery and drug stores, our monthly budget is $400/month and we have plenty of groceries and spend less than ever!
If you are happy paying what you pay and shopping at Walmart, there is certainly no reason to change. However, if you are like we used to be and wondering why we are spending so much each week and looking for a better way, I encourage you to consider a new approach!
