New Coupon Booklet at Lowes Foods Can be Used Anywhere!

Apr
05

There’s a new coupon booklet that you don’t want to miss out on! It’s available at Lowes Foods stores and has great coupons in it. The nice thing is that they don’t expire until May 31st and there are a combination of both manufacturer’s coupons and store coupons. I counted 32 manufacturer’s coupons for products ranging from Jif Peanut Butter to Ragu to Hellmanns Mayonnaise to Honey Bunches of Oats and so much more! To see the full list, click here.

The nice thing about this booklet is that the manufacturer’s coupons can be used at any store. Although the booklet itself is found at Lowes Foods, if a coupon has the word “manufacturer’s coupon” written on it, it is an offer from the manufacturer, not the store. So, the coupon can be redeemed at any store that accepts coupons. I plan on getting a couple of these booklets today and trying this out, as the Hellmann’s is on sale at Harris Teeter this week, along with a couple of other items.

The books cost $1 each and proceeds from each sale will go to local food banks.

Let me know if you can find the books and if you have any problems redeeming the coupons!

Never Pay for Toothpaste Again!

Feb
07

There are certain items that a person can generally never pay for if they pay attention and use the coupons when the item goes on sale. One of those items is toothpaste!

Today, I picked up 15 tubes and got them all FREE. I only had to pay the tax (4 cents each). This is how I did it:

The Colgate 6.4 oz. toothpaste is on sale at Lowes Foods for $1.00. It normally costs $3.09 if not on sale, so I’m already saving $2.09 simply by buying it on sale.

I looked in my binder and noticed that I had a $.50 off one Colgate coupon. Since Lowes Foods doubles coupons, that $.50 doubled to $1.00 off and became free! That was a super easy deal. I stocked up and bought 15 of them, since I use them as giveaways and I also added a few to my stockpile of toothpaste. I won’t run out of toothpaste anytime soon and most likely, another sale will come up before I run out. Thus, I should NEVER have to pay for toothpaste!

Note that I got name brand toothpaste, too. Even store brand isn’t this cheap. Dollar Store toothpaste is only $1.00, but often the size of the tube is tiny compared to the big 6.4 oz. that I got.

By the way, if you need coupons for specific brands of toothpaste, I suggest looking on EBAY. There are coupons for pretty much anything you want there, on sale for cents on the dollar.

What items do you normally get for free with your couponing?

Star News vs. News and Observer!

Feb
05

This week I found two sets of coupon inserts in each paper. I found one Red Plum and one Smart Source insert.

Some people are also reporting a bonus General Mills insert that they found in the Wilmington Star News, so let me know if you find that, too. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get it, as the General Mills inserts tend to be really nice!

At first glance, the Wilmington coupon inserts definitely feel thinner! Let’s take a closer look:

The Wilmington Star News Newspaper Smart Source Insert had coupons for the following products:

Halls Cough Drops, Campbells Kettle Style Soup, Hills Bros Cappuccino, Duncan Hines, Duncan Hines Topping, Almay Cosmetics, Woolite, Lysol Products (6 different coupons), Seattle’s Best Coffee, Stouffer’s Sautes for Two, UP2U Gum, Mentos Gum, Johnsonville Breakfast Sausage, Schick Disposable Razors, White Cloud Bath Tissue, Scotch-Brite Sponges, Hydroxycut, Coldstone Creamery.

The Raleigh News and Observer Smart Source Insert had coupons for all of the above plus

KY Products, Pepcid, Lactaid, Tucks, SoftcupV8 Splas, Campbells Condensed Soups and Select Harvest Soups, Pepperdige Farms 3-Layer Cake, YoCrunch Multipacks, Greek Yogurts, and Candy or Granola Yogurts, Curel Moisturizer, Archway Cookies, Snackwells Bars, Claritin, Dryel Cleaning Kits, Infusium 23, Pert, MegaRed, Woolite Carpet Cleaner and Pet Urine Eliminator (in addition to the above Woolite), Nozin Nasal Sanitizer, Resolve All-Stain and Pretreats, Proactiv, Purina One. The only coupon that was in the Wilmington paper that I did not see in the Raleigh paper was the White Cloud Bath Tissue coupon.

Clearly, the Raleigh Smart Source is a better bet!

Let’s move on to the Red Plum Insert.

The Wilmington Star News Red Plum, insert has coupons for the following:

Folgers, Rhodes Warm n Serv Rolls, Gillette Mach3 Disposable Razors, Gillette Shave Prep, Gillette Fusion ProGlide System, Psoriasin, Paseo Bath Tissue, Paper Towels and Facial Tissue

The Raleigh News and Observer Red Plu, insert has coupons for most of the above plus the following:

KFC, Baskin Robbins, Zatarain’s, Maybelline New York Mascara and Eyeshadow or Eyeliner, Maybelline Lip Product, Foundation, Blush, Concealer, Quaker Chewy Bars, Jimmy Dean Pancakes and Sausage Products, Greenies Canine Dental Chews, Crave Cat Treats, Nature’s Bounty Vitamins, Polident, Instant Face Lift, Subway.

The Raleigh Red Plum did not include the Gillette Coupons that I saw in my Wilmington paper.

Once again, the Raleigh paper wins award for most coupons! I wasn’t totally disappointed with the Wilmington paper coupons, so if that’s all you can get, it’s not the end of the world. However, if you can get your hands on the Raleigh paper this morning, it’s definitely more bang for your buck!

Star News vs. News and Observer

Jan
22

This week there were two inserts in both newspapers for me. I had a Red Plum and a Smart Source in each paper. At first glance, the Wilmington Star News inserts feel thinner; let’s take a look and see which actually had more coupons.

The Wilmington Red Plum had coupons for: Loreal Paris eye products, Loreal Paris hair styling products, shampoo, and treatments, and Loreal Paris Skincare, Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls, Superpretzels, Renuzit Adjustables, and LandOfrost wrap kits or sub sandwich kits.

The Raleigh Red Plum had all of the above PLUS Whiskas cat food, Uncle Ben’s products, Soft Scrub, Right Guard, Dry Idea Sticks Deoderant, Pupperoni, ERASE Face Lift, Milo’s Kitchen Dog Treats, a ton of vitamin and supplement coupons, Special K Bars, Newman’s Own Salad Dressing, Salsa and Pizza, Vanity Fair Napkins and some Target-specific coupons for Charmin, Bounty, Bounty Basic.

The Raleigh Red Plum is the clear winner!

The Wilmington Smart Source insert had coupons for: Reynold’s Wrap Pam Liner, Luden’s Cough Drops, Kibble Select, People Magazine, Chock Full o Nuts, Blistex, French’s Mustards, Pepsi, Lays Dips and Chips, ershey’s and Reece’s Candies, Johnsonville Sausages, Reynold’s Wrap Foil, Reynold’s Slow Cooker Liners, and the Olive Garden.

The Raleigh Smart Source had coupons for all of the above except the Luden’s Cough Drops, Kibble Select, Blistex.

The Raleigh Smart Source ALSO had coupons for the following products that were not included in the Wilmington paper:

Kraft Dressings, Zone Perfect Bar or Multipack, Betty Crocker Cake Mix and Frosting, Cheerios, Yoplait Yogurt, Yoplait Greek Yogurt, Pepperidge Farm Baked Naturals, Pace Picante Sauce, Nathan’s Fries, Potatoe Pancakes and Onion Rings, Swanson Canned Chicken, Orville Reddenbacher’s Popcorn, Hunts Canned Tomatoes, Game Ball Icecream Cake, Franks Red Hot Sauce, Red Baron, Tony’s or Freschetta Pizzas, White Castle Burgers, Sargento Cheese, A1 Steak Sauce, Mt. Olive Pickles, Tyson Anytizers, Bissell Carpet Cleaning Powder or Foam, Bissel Stomp and Go Pads, Theraflu Products, Triaminic, Fleishchmann’s Yeast, Budweiser Sauce, Real California Cheese, Finish Products, French’s Worceshire Sauce, Neosporin Essentials, Oscar Meyer Carving Board or Cold Cuts, Lunchables with Fruit, Velveeta Cheese, Heluva Good Dips, Whonu Nutrition Rich Cookies, and Soothie Eye Products.

Well, the obvious conclusion for this week is to get the Raleigh News and Observer newspaper if you can get your hands on it! It DEFINITELY has more coupons this week!

If you’re strictly wanting to get a good deal, I worked up a Pillsbury Biscuits scenario where you buy 8 biscuits and redeem four coupons that all double. You end up making money if you could your box tops and $2 coupon! Here are a bunch of Betty Crocker Coupons that you can use with the promo, plus some were in last week’s paper.

Burger King Booklet- $1 for $8 in FREE Food!

Oct
06

Going on right now at Burger King locations in Wilmington is the discount booklet sale. It’s a pretty neat little deal. Pay $1 and you get a coupon booklet with $8 in free food coupons. Included in the booklet are:

4 FREE value size fry coupons
3 FREE soft serve ice cream cone coupons
1 FREE small soft drink or icee

I know that McDonalds used to do something similar to this for the beginning of the school year. Some people buy the booklets then pass out the coupons as Halloween treats. Also, if you were going to treat a group of kids, either your own or maybe a sports team or something, this would certainly be an economical way to do it!

I don’t think there’s a limit on how many you can buy. I bought four today at the drive-through. The coupons don’t expire until December 31, 2011, so there is plenty of time to use them.

Finally, the coupons are sold to benefit education through the BK Scholars Program, which has donated over $15 million dollars. So, if you are having any guilt about buying fast food coupons, perhaps you can justify it by knowing that you are saving money and helping a great cause!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

Sep
18

Today there were two inserts in each newspaper- both had a Smart Source insert and both had a Red Plum insert. I personally thought the coupons were kind of “blah” this week, but there were still some good ones worth getting, particularly a few that will triple for Harris Teeter Triple coupon week through Tuesday night.

The Red Plum inserts were somewhat thin in both papers, but there were still some good coupons. I liked the $1.00 off of two Cheez-It coupons (Raleigh paper only), $.55 off of one Keebler Cookies coupons (Raleigh paper only and these will triple) and the Rhodes Rolls $.75 off coupons (these will triple and they were in both newspapers).

Both papers also had a lot of L’Oreal coupons and both papers also had the $.35 off of Born Free Natural Eggs coupons, which should triple this week, too. I’m also intrigued by the Sprayaway Glass cleaner ad and coupon in both papers- it claims to be the world’s best glass cleaner. They told me that if I try it once I’ll never use anything else! I guess I’m an easy sell because I’m going to give it a shot. The $.50 off coupons they offered should triple, so that makes it attractive as well.

For those of you with dogs, you will like the many dog food coupons that came in the Raleigh Red Plum insert. These were not included in the Wilmington paper, so keep that in mind. I also noticed a few cat food coupons in the Raleigh Red Plum, too. The pet food coupons are: $1 off 1 bag of Pedigree, Buy three cans of Pedigree, get one free, $1 off two Pedigree treats for dogs, $4 off Ultra Food for Dogs at PetSmart (may be able to use elsewhere). Also, there were $1.00 off Whiskas Dry Catfood and Buy two get one free Wiskas tray cat foods.

Now on to the Smart Source insert. It was also thinner than past weeks but still had some great coupons that were worth it. The Raleigh Smart Source was significantly thicker and had pretty much all the coupons that the Wilmington paper had plus more. I particularly liked the $.50 off Johnsonville Italian Sausage coupons (in both papers and will triple), the $.75 off Tombstone pizza (Raleigh paper only) and the $.45 off Archway cookies coupons (Raleigh paper only). I also will use the $1.00 off of Fruitables 8 pack juice coupons (Raleigh paper only) and I’m interested in the $.60 off Goldfish Sandwich bread coupon (will triple), which should make it a really good deal, Raleigh paper only.

Both papers had the $.25 off 4 Campbell’s soup coupons (will triple) and the Dole Fruit Crisp coupons ($.50 off 1, which triples).

One nice bonus that I saw in the Raleigh Red Plum insert is the IHOP coupons on the front page of it! There were three Buy one Get one free meal coupons, valid M-F, no holidays, and then three 20% off your entire check, valid everyday except holidays. Those are certainly a bonus, since my husband loves to go to IHOP every now and then.

In conclusion, if I were you and I could get the Raleigh paper, I would definitely buy two copies of it and not bother with the Star News today. The Raleigh paper has pretty much the same coupons that are in the Wilmington paper plus more.

Until next week…….happy shopping!

Star News vs. News and Observer Round Five!

Aug
07

Well, it really isn’t even a competition at this point, but for lack of a better title, I decided to do a round five against the Star News and News and Observer papers. The Raleigh paper did have more coupons, although there were a few different ones in the Wilmington paper that were not in the Raleigh paper. I personally bought two of the Raleigh and one Wilmington this morning. If you need help finding the Raleigh paper, see Where to find the Raleigh News and Observer in Southeastern NC to help you.

Total Value of Raleigh Coupons: $203.25

Total Value of Wilmington Paper Coupons: $99.10

Well, again the Raleigh Newspaper had way more dollar value than the Wilmington Star Newspaper coupons today! There were $104.15 more dollar value in coupons in the Raleigh paper than the Wilmington paper, so dollar-for-dollar it is the best value.

I will say that if you want the variety you might want to buy both newspapers. For example, all the Betty Crocker, Yoplait and General Mills coupons and Pillsbury coupons were only in the Wilmington paper today, not the Raleigh paper.

We will meet again next week for another battle of the papers!

Contacting the Manufacturer for Coupons

Jul
21

Manufacturers really have to compete for our business nowadays! Just think of how many options we have out there. Consider chips or cereal for example. There are so many choices, not only amongst different manufacturers of similar products but also amongst the store brands. Most grocery stores offer their own versions of popular items from everything including cereals, chips, juices, milk, yogurt, bread- you name it! If there’s a name brand, there’s usually a store brand available too.

What this means for us, the consumers, is that the manufacturers have to compete a little harder for our business and one of the ways they do this is by offering coupons to entice us to try their product. Many manufacturers offer coupons repeatedly (each month) in the newspaper and online. For example, I can bet on the fact that Kelloggs will put coupons in the Sunday paper monthly for their products. Many manufacturers have web pages where you can sign up to be on their mailing list. I do this and quite often I get coupons sent to me in my e-mail from them monthly. Proctor and Gamble has even sent me coupon booklets in postal mail before!

Another way to get coupons is to write the manufacturer. I’ve been hearing stories in my workshops from people who have had success with this, so I decided to do a project. I’m going to write ten different manufacturers via email and see how many respond to me with coupons. I can’t wait to report back on how this is going! I did one yesterday for a specialty shampoo that my husband has to use, Nizoral. It is SO expensive and I never can seem to find coupons for it, not even online. I wrote them and heard back the next day! They said they would be glad to send me coupons. I was so excited, so I will report as to how long they take to arrive.

One lady told me that she did this with all of her prescription meds and that each manufacturer sent her high value coupons, including some that were $25 off! She said that she could use them even with her insurance and the $25 off took care of the copay. How awesome is that? I definitely suggest writing the manufacturer especially when specialty or expensive products are involved.

I plan on writing ten manufacturers this week, so I will report back soon on the response! For now, here is a link to Kelloggs website. They sent me some great coupons in my e-mail today, including $.70 off of Cheese-its or Keebler crackers. These crackers are on sale this week at Harris Teeter, so with the coupon they end up being only $1.10 a box!

Facebook Coupons

Apr
23

Are you one of the millions of Americans who is on Facebook?

If so, you can access hundreds of coupons from some of your favorite brands. Many companies are now creating Facebook pages for their products. If you go to their page and “Like” their product, you will have access to special coupons for those products.

For example, I love Wholly Guacamole. Probably at least each month, they put out coupons on their Facebook page. Since I clicked the “like” button, I am eligible to go and print out up to two copies of any coupon that they post. I have gotten some really high value coupons from their page, too, for example, “$2 or $3 off,” thus making the product free.

If you like a company’s products or have a favorite product, I suggest going to Facebook and typing that company’s name. You will be surprised to see how many companies or products have Facebook pages and how most of them offer coupons available on the page.

Here’s a deal that’s available right now via Facebook:

$1 off of Wheat Thins Crunch Sticks (These are on sale at Harris Teeter this week and the coupon will make them only $.94 each when they usually cost over $2 a box).

To get the coupon, I went to Facebook, logged in, and searched for “Wheat Thins.” Once it came up, I immediately clicked the “like” button and once I did, the coupon was made available to me. I can print the coupon twice (trying to print it any more times will not work because the coupon websites remember your computer’s IP address).

So, next time you’re on Facebook, have fun searching your favorite companies and brands for those free coupons!
