About Me

2013-02-24 14.12.32-2

Hi! My name is Delly. I am married with four children, ages seven, five, three, and one. I love my family, my country and third, I LOVE to get a good deal! My goal is to make saving money in the grocery store easy, enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

I have been a frequent guest on Southeastern NC news, including Fox Wilmington, WECT and the Time Warner Cable News Channel (see video below). I also host the Delly’s Deals Radio Show on Port City Radio and write daily deals for Port City Daily. I now run this blog and travel Southeastern NC teaching workshops and sharing valuable information on how to cut your grocery bill in half. I am also still a part-time Spanish teacher (which I have been teaching since 2003).

I decided to start this blog as a way of inspiring others to keep more of their money in their pockets by saving on their groceries and in other areas of their life. I learned to coupon from a friend and have lowered my grocery bill by at least 50%, some months even more and we now have more groceries in our house than ever before! I frequently pay less than a dollar for many groceries (name brand) and often get items for FREE! This blog will show you how. Contact me any time- delly@dellysdeals.com or call the workshop info line at 910-350-8984.

      Hi Lacey,

I am so sorry I didn’t see your comment sooner! It got tagged as spam so I never saw it. Thank you so much for the Rite Aid tip- I adjusted my filter so please let me know if you ever see any other awesome deals there that I can share!

      Hi Heather,

I do not know- I don’t think so! The HT in Leland is a special case where they are competing against a new Lowes Foods store. Unless you also have a new Lowes Foods near the HT in Surf City they are probably not tripling. I live in Wilmington and I wish ours would triple, too! Sometimes I drive to Leland which is 20 min away but lately I found it more worth my time to stay in Wilmington and shop. I still save tons of money with doubles. Thanks for dropping by; let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hi Melissa,

I have not done it yet- I plan to try it this weekend! I’ll let you know how it goes. Have you done it?

I have a question. Since Lowes foods is doing super doubles this week, will they still triple under 1$ in Leland?

Hi Christy- sorry, just saw your comment. I’m sure you figured it out already but the Leland Lowes Foods does do both events at one time- they did triples and Super Doubles, so basically all coupons multiplied in some way!

The Meuller’s coupons in the Smart Source flyer as well as the ones printed online specify on them – NO DOUBLING – so the pasta does not end up being free, but still a good price at .45

      Hi Vanessa,

Yes, it is a setting on your computer but I think it might be different for each computer. On mine you go into the default printer settings on your computer and change it there. I may eventually put a video up showing how to do it on my computer but that may not apply to everyone.

Thought I saw a reference to a way to save on cable with your story of dropping cable 4 years ago. Cannot find it in the archives and I don’t remember the particulars…and REALLY would like to know a good alternative to Time Warner Cable. Thanks for your help!

      Hi Faye,

Yes! That was on Facebook. We have basic cable now so we can see local news and about 8 other channels. That runs us about 9 dollars a month. We also do Netflix, which has TONS of TV shows and movies and some of everything else and that runs about 9 dollars. So for less than $20 a month we have plenty to watch.

You can hook your laptop up to the TV to watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. An even easier option is to get a Roku Box, which you hook up just like a cable box and it will allow you to play and see Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and a bunch of other shows without having to hook your computer up all the time. It is really neat! I will send you the link to your email.

    Delly,
Do you know if all of the Harris Teeters are doing the double coupons starting tomorrow or just the Leland store?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Delly,

My EVIC coupons don’t come off at Leland Harris-Teeter, and I always have to go to Customer Service. Does anyone else have this problem? They keep telling me it’s a computer problem – not my card.

    Thanks.

Carol, unfortunately this is a problem they have been having. It is within their system. Many others have been complaining, too, so I suggest just keep going to customer service and maybe they will fix it!

      Hi Beth,

You can go to http://www.coupsfortroops.com to find a military family that can use them. Military can redeem expired coupons for 6 months! Also, I’m thinking about organizing a monthly coupon trade, so let me know if that’s something you’d want to participate in!

I spoke to the Customer Service rep at the Harris Teeter on Oleander about this. She said Corporate is aware of the situation and the best practice is to print out your coupons. Ask the cashier to call the Customer Service Rep to the register before you pay and they can take them off right there. Now, I think it will depend on how nice your store CSRs are, but that is what I was told. I am going to try it on my next trip.

      Hi Mary,

That is what I’ve been told, too. Most of the time they are nice but it definitely varies from store to store, and also depending on what mood they are in at the time!

I have a question – I’m new to the couponing idea and have had a problem with some coupons not printing very well (specifically, the picture of the item isn’t showing). Everything else, including the barcode, is fine. Does anyone know if I’ll have trouble redeeming the coupons? thanks, Happy F riday!

      Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for dropping by and welcome! That is definitely strange- I haven’t heard of that before but as long as the words are written and the bar code is there you shouldn’t have any issues. Let me know how it goes!

Oops – one more question – Do the Lowe’s digital coupons double/triple? I can’t find anything on their site that answers that question. Thanks again!

    Hi Delly,

I recently started couponing and I have to thank you for this website because both trips I have spent no more than $16 and had a $50 total. I have however noticed when I go in the evening on the day the sale starts that most of the items that you have listed as on sale are no longer marked on sale. Is this because they reach a certain quota and then take the item of sale? If so should I wait till later in the week and try again or do you just have to catch the sales as soon as they start like 7am? I look forward to attending one of your workshops soon and would possibly love to host one. Thanks again for this great site and for all your helpful tips. One more question I was checking out the online shopping at Harris Teeter and was wondering if they honored coupons if you did the online shopping? This would be wonderful if they did and would also maybe allow me to catch those sale items as soon as they were on sale!

      Hi Tisha,

Thank you for being here and for taking the time to leave such a nice message. That is an awesome first trip you had!

OK- to address the sales.I’m not sure what’s going on there because the sales stay the same the entire week. They change every Wed. and last all week through Tuesday night. Sometimes if you shop late on a Tues. night, the workers have already begun taking down the tags and putting in the new prices for Wed. even though it’s still Tues. That has happened to me before and it’s very confusing!

The other suggestion is perhaps you shopped in Leland? If so, sometimes their prices are a little different but the same items should still be on sale.

As for the express lane online shopping, yes they honor coupons and will take them BUT they do not come off your bill until the next trip. They will be applied to that next order.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will send you the info about hosting a workshop to your e-mail :)

    Delly,
I am not able to print coupons. I’ve installed the coupon printer & uninstalled it just to check if it was not installed correctly. I have now reinstalled it again, but they still will not print….. Everything else will print so it’s got to be something I’m doing wrong or blocking it. Any thoughts that may help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for all your hard work on this site I really save a lot of money and it’s all because you got me into couponing!

      Hi Kim,

The next public workshop is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, March 30th at 2 p.m. Once it’s confirmed I will post it here. Hope you can make it!
Until then, definitely check out the easy deal lists. Choose your store (I recommend Harris Teeter or Lowes Foods) and see the long lists of deals I provide that include the link to a printable coupon. See if you are in need of or could make meals with any of those items and that will be a great start to saving money!
