Tacos are a staple in my home. We eat them at least once a week. They are so easy to make- all you need is a taco seasoning packet, shells or tortillas, ground beef and cheese! Add whatever toppings you like and you’re good to go!

I got a great deal on shells a few weeks back. I got ground beef from Food Lion yesterday where it was on sale. Today, taco seasoning is on sale at Harris Teeter with matching coupons and a promo to boot! This could make for an excellent theoretical deal.

Good morning!

First I want to start out with a bit of news- I will no longer be doing my weekly Star News vs. News and Observer write up. After doing it for over a year and a half, I think it’s fair to say that the Raleigh Newspaper consistently has better coupons than the Wilmington Star News. Bigger cities generally equal better coupons.

I will, however, hopefully be replacing it with a weekly hot coupons column, where I share great deals from the coupons that are in the paper. I have limited time on Sundays, as I like to limit my website/Facebook work and spend time with my family, so I felt this was a better use of my time. I enjoy looking at the coupons in the newspaper and seeing where I can use them, so I thought I would share it with you!

Earlier this week I posted the Lowes Foods Coupon Policy since they recently updated it.

One thing I noticed is that Lowes Foods takes Catalinas (the long skinny coupons that print at the register) from other grocery stores. This is perfectly normal and reasonable, since Catalinas are really manufacturer’s coupons. People often think they are store coupons because they have a store logo on them, when in reality they are offers from the manufacturer.

So, I went to Food Lion and did their store brand sale, buying 8 items to earn a $2 store brand sale catalina.

I then took it to Lowes Foods and it doubled to $4 off!

I just got back from a quick trip to Lowes Foods. I really shouldn’t have been in there at all, lol….I have so much work to do! But I was on my lunch break (I teach Spanish on Thursdays) and decided to run in. I was a bit disorganized and had coupons all over my binder but still managed to find some great deals!

*The Glade Candles were on sale for $.99 each. They were all gone but there were about 10 of the Apple scent ones sitting on the shelf but they said $2.99. Turns out they were mislabeled. I am so glad I grabbed them to check because they rang up for $.99! My coupon was for $2 off 2. Well, the computer would not accept them because the coupon was for more than the total of the 2 candles. The cashier was so nice- she told me to go get another candle and it would then work. So I did, and the $2 coupon worked! I ended up getting all three candles for free!

The Puffs coupon was for $1 off 2 and came from the Staples Batteries that I got for free a few weeks ago. They were part of a bunch of coupons that were inside of the package.

Most of my coupons on this trip were from various Sunday newspapers. Use my database (above) to search and find the date that a particular coupon came out if you are curious. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to list exact dates right now.

I suggest going through your coupons and pulling the ones that are $1-$2 since they will double. Pull the ones for products that you like and when in the store make sure it really is a good price, even after it super doubles. There were a few products that were not on sale (which is my number one rule). Even the doubled coupon did not make that product a good deal, so I did not get it.

Also, my final tip is to organize the coupons you wish to use in piles according to the rows in the store. I am not used to Lowes Foods layout and did not separate the coupons, so I wasted a fair amount of time crossing back and forth of the aisles. If you can sort your coupons before you shop, you’ll waste less time. It literally takes 3-4 minutes to do before you shop but can save quite a bit of time in the store.

As many of you know, this week, all week, Lowes Food is doing Super Double Coupons, doubling all coupons that are $2 or less.

Below I have posted their coupon policy, as it has been updated. I appreciate their complete and very understandable coupon policy.

A couple of notes:

* The policy says they will not separate transactions, so plan to only use 20 coupons per day. It does not say you couldn’t go to another store, but I think the intention is for each customer to double 20 per day.

* Rain checks will not be offered for the Super Doubled coupon, however you can get a rain check for the sale price if they are out of an item, but your coupon may not double next week.

* Only 3 identical coupons for a product will be honored in one trip. This helps ensure availability for all customer.

Manufacturer Coupon Policy

• A doubled coupon will not be honored if the doubled amount exceeds the retail or sale price of the coupon item. No cash back will be awarded.

Other Coupon Promotions

• From time to time, our manufacturer coupon promotions will be enhanced. For example, we may offer our customers the opportunity to triple their coupons. Special promotional opportunities will be featured in our circular or on-line.

Super Double Coupons

  • No competitor coupons will be doubled or tripled.

  Internet Coupons

  We gladly accept legitimate internet coupons. However, there has been a growing number of fraudulent internet coupons in the marketplace. We are committed to protecting our customers, manufacturers and our company against this illegal activity. Therefore, Lowes Foods will practice the following guidelines for internet coupons:

   

  • We will only accept printable internet coupons if they scan at checkout.
  • We will not honor FREE Product coupons printed from the Internet.
  • We will accept Buy One Get One FREE and other values that have a purchase requirement.
  • We will only accept internet coupons that have an expiration date. If no expiration date is visible, we cannot accept the coupon.
  • Coupons will be rejected if they are distorted, altered or obvious duplicates. Coupons are non-transferrable, meaning they should not be photocopied or scanned and distributed to others.
  • Coupons have unique serial numbers printed on them and follow industry-standard format. Any presented coupon that does not follow standard format will not be accepted.
  • With the purchase of two like manufacturer’s products, we accept two internet coupons per day.

  Print at Home Coupons

  • Store coupons must be in date.
  • All limits and purchase requirements must be followed.

   

  Competitor’s Coupons

  • We gladly accept local supermarket or supercenter competitor’s circular coupons or direct mail coupons for dollars off the entire order. (examples include Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Bi-Lo, Kroger, Super Target, Super K-Mart, Wal-mart)
  • We will not accept any competitor coupons for specific items. For example, we will not accept a competitor’s coupon for $1.00 off of an individual item.
  • Purchase requirements must be met.
  • Coupon must be in-date.
  • We will not accept any type of internet coupons from any other retailers.
  • We will not accept any type of competitor coupons from drug stores or club stores.
  • We will accept Catalina Check-out Manufacturer coupons from competitors as long as they are in date, all purchase requirements are met, and they scan.

Many of you have heard that starting on Wednesday, January 23rd, Lowes Foods will be running Super Double Coupons week. That means that all coupons $2 and less will double! So, a $2 coupon will turn into a $4 coupon. What a great opportunity to save!

Also, as an added bonus, I just spoke with the manager at the Lowes Foods in Leland. He said that they will continue their triples during the Super Doubles week. So that means that coupons $.99 and less will TRIPLE and coupons $1-$2 will DOUBLE. How awesome is that!?

All other Lowes Foods locations will just be doing Super Doubles, doubling all coupons $2 and less.

I paid on average $1.41 per item on all of the above at CVS!

I posted earlier this week about the great deal on diapers and medicine at CVS. Well tonight I finally had a chance to drop in and test it out and boy did it work out in my favor!

I had to buy $30 worth of select products in order to earn a $10 CVS cash card gift certificate. Since I needed diapers, that wasn’t hard. Remember, the $30 is based on the sale price alone. Once you hit $30, you can still redeem coupons to lower your out of pocket!

I bought:

1 bag of Pullups, Size 2t-3t, 26 count ($9.49)

1 bag of Huggies, Size 2, 36 count ($9.49)

2 bags of Huggies Wipes, 184 count (once and done variety) $5.99 each

I used:

$3.50 off Pullups printable (I used a Catalina from Harris Teeter but CVS took it)

$2.00 off Huggies *available in last Sunday’s paper

2 coupons for $.50 off wipes *from last Sunday’s paper

$3 in CVS Extrabucks that I had earned the previous week

I paid out of pocket:

$21.46 plus tax ($23.63) for all of that.

I got back:

$10 CVS cash card to use on my next purchase! If you count the cash card, it’s like I paid only $11.46 plus tax for all of that.

I did a second transaction….

I bought:

2 4 oz bottles of Robitussin for $4.99 each

I used:

2 coupons for $1 off Robitussin (printable here and also in last Sunday’s newspaper)

$2 off $10 worth of cold medicine

Total:

$5.98 plus tax, which I paid with the $10 cash card that I just earned

I got back:

$3 in Extrabucks PLUS still had a balance of $3 and change on my cash card!

Total out of pocket: $21.46

Total value: $55.94

Total Bonus Money Earned: $13.00

It’s like I paid: $8.46 for everything ($1.41 per item)
