I think today was one of the best trips I have ever had at Harris Teeter Super Doubles! In the end I paid $1.93 plus tax. before coupons or sales, the total was $82.47. Another thing that made this trip nice was that I got a wide variety of items, from ground pork, to rope sausage, to lotion, to cat food, to household cleaners. Couponing is definitely not just for junk foods!

Since I can only double 20 coupons per day, I will go back tomorrow for more items. My first trip is always just a fun trip where I see how much I can get for how little. The rest of the week is more serious, where I will actually try to stock up on some items that my family uses. Even though they may not be freebies, I still expect to save 50%-75% during the rest of the week. I saw lots of deals today on coffee, cat and dog food, vitamins, paper products and baby items.

I even made money on a couple of items! 

(Dawn Dish Detergent- on sale for $.99. Use a $.50 paper coupon from 10/28 P&G and a $.50 ZVR Harris Teeter online coupon- it all comes off and you end up $.51 in the positive!)

Being organized is half the battle. I had planned out my trip last night and organized the coupons that I planned to use and placed them in the “To Redeem at Checkout” section of my binder. I am also glad that I had organized my binder this past weekend because there are always sales that I was not anticipating and I was able to easily find coupons to match those sales.

Normally I suggest leaving your children at home if you can because it’s easier to concentrate when you are alone. However, I did bring along my five week old daughter and she was my little shopping buddy today. She slept the whole time!

Starting tomorrow, Wed. Oct. 31st, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods will be running Super Doubles for a week. With tomorrow being Halloween, it’s going to be one busy Wednesday for me!

I will probably go 3-4 times this week, for a total of around 80 coupons.

Remember, the rules of Super Double coupon week are that you can double up to twenty coupons per day, including coupons that are up to $2.00 in face value on the coupon. This means that $1.00 will double to $2.00, $1.50 will double to $3.00 and $2.00 will double to $3.50 off. Match the coupons to the SALES for maximum savings.

Read my post, “How I Get Prepare for Triple Coupons Week” to get specific details on exactly what I do to prepare. Although I was preparing for Triple coupon week when I did that post, the steps that I follow are the same for this week’s Super Double Coupon week.

Other tips to remember-

A. Try to get the items you want the most (particularly the free ones) first. Sometimes popular items sell out. Although the grocery store will restock, it’s hard to know exactly when and how many of an item they will get in.

B. Order any coupons for items your family goes through quite a bit, but only if it will be a good deal. You can order from EBAY to get item-specific coupons.

C. Pull any $1.00, $1.50, and $1.75 off coupons out of your binder and place in an envelope marked specifically for Super Double coupons. That way, you can easily price check in store to see if it will be a good deal. Also, organize the coupons by aisle in the grocery store for maximum efficiency, although this is not required.

D. Don’t forget to upload your digital coupons! Go to your Harris Teeter weekly emails, click “EVIC coupons” and load as many as you like onto your shopper card. I noticed lots of P&G coupons that have digital matchups, so this means you will double your paper coupon AND get the digital coupons off, too! I have also been getting overage on my digital coupons, so that’s a nice bonus!

E. Visit the deal lists on Southern Savers to see previews of the deals that are available. These will give you an idea of some of the great deals but remember, no website can ever find all the deals! You have to look around the store yourself and see what coupons you have to match the products that are on sale.

I’m so pumped about paying $3.24 per pack for diapers that would normally run me $11.99 per pack! I saved 73% off the regular price. Here’s how I did it at CVS:

I bought: 4 packs of Pampers Diapers (on sale for $8.99)

I used: 4 manufacturer’s coupons for $2.00 off (found in the today’s October 28th Proctor and Gamble insert)

I also used: 1 CVS coupon for $5.00 off any baby purchase (came from the CVS card scanner machine. You may not get this same coupon but instead you could use any 25% or 20% off coupon from CVS that you get or any Extrabucks that you earned previously). 

4 Diapers: $35.96
4 Pampers Coupons: -$8.00 (brings total to $27.96)
1 CVS Coupon: -$5.00 (brings total to $22.96)

That makes each pack only $5.74, which is already awesome. Makes them about 14 cents each.

BUT…..it gets better! After paying, I got back $10 in Extrabucks from the buy $30 worth P&G and get $10 back promo that CVS is running. So if you count the Extrabucks that I earned, I paid $3.24 per pack or 8 cents per diaper! Compare that to Sam’s Club’s Price of 19 cents per diaper!

Good morning! Today there were three inserts in each newspaper- a Red Plum, a Smart Source and a Proctor and Gamble. You definitely want to get the Proctor and Gamble insert since it normally only comes out once a month.

Each Sunday I compare both the Raleigh and Wilmington newspapers to see which had better and more coupons. This week, Raleigh did have more coupons (all black and blue text). The Red and Blue text represents which coupons were in the Wilmington paper. See how many more are in the Raleigh paper?

This cool weather is making me really crave chili!

I love chili for so many reasons. Not only is it good but it’s easy to make and relatively healthy. It is also VERY economical- a few inexpensive ingredients go a long way and can feed a lot of people. Perfect for my family of SIX!

One key ingredient is tomatoes. I prefer name brand and right now there is a coupon for DelMonte canned tomatoes on my website AND they are on sale at Harris Teeter for $1. Buy two cans, use the coupon and they become $.50 a can. You can’t even get store brand for that price!

Delicious and Easy Crockpot Chili

You need:

Crock Pot

3 Cans of Kidney Beans (sometimes I do 2 cans of Kidney and 1 can of Black Beans) I rinse the beans to get rid of some of the sodium.

McCormick Chili Seasoning Packet

Cooked, Drained Ground Beef (1/2-1 pound, depending on how meaty you want it)

2-3 cans of diced tomatoes (depending on how tomatoey you like it) I use the basil, garlic and oregano seasoned ones

Mix all the ingredients together in a crock pot and let cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-4 hours. Stir occasionally. If it seems too thick, you can add a little water to taste but know that it will get more watery as it cooks anyway. 

Optional toppings: Shredded Cheese, sour cream, chives, onions, crushed tortilla chips, hot sauce or anything else you like!

I also like to make a pan of cornbread with it. So filling!

To me, it tastes even better the next day, so you can prepare it, refrigerate it and eat it the next day if you think ahead. Or……put it on in the morning and let it cook all day on low and it will be ready for dinner!

I can make an entire crock pot of this using all the above ingredients and the cornbread for less than $10, and it provides a meal and plenty of leftovers for another meal or two.

One tip is to do each transaction separately in the order that I listed them above. Then, use the Extrabucks that you earn to pay for each subsequent transaction. This way, you don’t have to pay much out of pocket for all the rest of the items.

Or…….you could buy everything above in one transaction and earn a total of $11.49 in Extrabucks. Then use those to buy yourself something else at CVS (maybe even something that will earn you more Extrabucks)!

One final deal that I like at CVS this week are Clorox Wipes 35 ct. or Clorox Clean-up Spray. Buy 6 for $15 and get $5 back in Extrabucks. If you bought all of the above items, you could use the $11.49 Extrabucks that you earn to go towards the Clorox Wipes. You’d get 6 canisters for $3.51 and still get back $5 in Extrabucks to use on your next trip!
